In a city dotted with prestigious colleges and their innumerable
college fests, Sathaye College stands apart as far as college festivals
are celebrated. It does not have just your usual fest of song and
dance sequences and that 'must have' fashion show, but UTSAV takes
a completely different meaning here.
All the departments plunge themselves headlong into the activities
and the outcome of that intense hardwork and fantastic imagination
is a rainbow of talents.
What started as a day-long festivity ten years ago, has spread its
wings over 5 days and yet they don't seem to have enough - A day exclusively
dedicated to sports kicked off the week long celebration - UTSAV with
none other that the college past student Rutuja Divekar guiding the
students on 'Fitness Coach - A Career Option'.
2 fully packed days of Exhibitions - Sankalp, Siddha Fine Arts bought
out the astounding talent within the students - Rangoli, Mehendi,
Glass Painting, Pencil Sketches, Photography, Sculpting - the list
could go on.
Departments like Geography and Sanskrit proved that knowledge when
brought outside the textbooks can not only emphasise a subject matter
effectively but also create a sense of liking for the subjects. Students
made projects on Weathering, Acid Rain, Urban Population Explosion
and Depletion of Natural Resources. Sanskrit opened the treasure trove
of Ayurveda by displaying commonly found Kitchen herbs and their medicinal
properties.
The Library too, displayed its collection of books - that rare treat
we promise to read someday.
NSS, NCC are active throughout year but at UTSAV they captivated visitors.
An eye-opener on 'Growing Incidence of Suicides', 'Superstitions'
only shows that today's generation is a sensitive one. The NCC enthralled
the audiences with a nail biting, action packed demonstration on 'Terrorist
Encounters', 'No Arm Combat' and 'Bayonet Fighting'.
The English Association had an unusual Talent Hunt - Participants
were given a medley of nursery rhyme characters and were expected
to 'Cobble-a-Story' in 15 mins.
Some very interesting projects on Office Automation, Cheese Processing,
and Battery Recharges were presented by the Science Association.
'Make-a-Newspaper' Competition had teams of reporters working overtime,
shuttling between the events, lest they miss out on important happenings.
One might wonder what purpose these fests serve, but a close look
at this entire exercise will show that it develops organisational
skills among students. Apart from giving vent to their creative expression,
it teaches them budgeting skills, sense of discipline, healthy interaction
with the teaching faculty and presentation attitude.
The testimony of this is that Sathaye College boasts of 3 inter collegiate
festivals; Gravity, Byte IT and Synergy.
